Band

The Kiama Public School Stage Band has a proud reputation as a one of the best primary school bands on the South Coast. Known for its vibrant swing style grooves, the band regularly performs at a variety of school and community events. In addition, the KPS band takes to the road at the end of each year to perform at local schools, preschools and throughout town.

Being part of the band not only provides students with an opportunity to learn an instrument, it also builds self-confidence and develops many other lifelong skills such as discipline and teamwork.

Kiama Public School provides a band program for students from Years 3-6. The ability to read music and play an instrument are advantageous but by no means a prerequisite. We have a sizable collection of instruments that students are able to hire as part of their membership fee of $80 per year. The instrument groups that make up the band are alto and tenor sax, trumpet, cornet, bass, keyboard and drums.

Band rehearsals take place in the school hall from 3pm to 4pm every Tuesday, with the exception of the last week of term. Parents are strongly encouraged to seek private tuition for their child once they have been accepted into the band.

If you are interested in your child joining our school band, please contact Mr Ellsmore on our school email: kiama-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au

Recent performances

The Band performed at the St George Bank's Auditorium at Kogarah in the Engadine Bandfest. The Engadine Bandfest is a prestigious music competition that runs annually for two weeks and is open to primary and secondary schools from across the state. Bands receive feedback from a hired adjudicator who grades them on the quality of the performance, the difficulty of the musical scores and the age and experience of the performers. The band consistently performs brilliantly and has been awarded with the highest honour – a gold award!
